The couple at the table

"This book is about six couples at a luxurious holiday resort. All is 5* fine wine, dinning and luxury until….the wife of one of the couples is murdered…..But who did it?

The main story is about Lucy, the ex-wife of the honeymooning couple at the resort. She has a very strange kind of relationship with her ex and new partner, as in they are frenemies, unbeknown to Lucy, who is trying her best and succeeding in her eyes to get along with her ex and his fiancé for the sake of their child.

So who murdered the new wife? And why did the husband not notice his wife being murdered right behind his back?

Well it couldn’t be one of the other guests, as they all have the perfect alibi “they were all together having dinner”.

This is the first book I have read by Sophie Hannah, I found this book got me asking questions and thinking a lot about who could have done it and the motives behind the murder. The problem is that I’m a detail oriented person who likes for things to add up and I found the conclusion a little lacking in imagination. But I’m sure we have all read a book in which we feel we could have written a better ending, or thought it would of been better if it ended differently.

I would recommend this book to lovers of crime/ thriller novels if you want an easy read that you don’t want or need to think too much about."

Content type: Bibliography
Publisher: Weidenfeld & Nicolson

Note: Includes bibliographical references and index The encyclopaedia once shaped our understanding of the world. Created by thousands of scholars and the most obsessive of editors, a good set conveyed a sense of absolute wisdom on its reader. Contributions from Albert Einstein, Sigmund Freud, Orville Wright, Alfred Hitchcock, Marie Curie and Indira Gandhi helped millions of children with their homework. But now these huge books gather dust, and sell for almost nothing on eBay, and we derive our information from our phones and computers, apparently for free. What have we lost in this transition? And how did we tell the progress of our lives in the past? This book presents a history and celebration of those who created the most ground-breaking and remarkable publishing phenomenon of any age. It tracks the story from Ancient Greece to Wikipedia, from modest single-volumes to the 11,000-volume Chinese manuscript that was too big to print.

Note: The Battle of Britain from July to September 1940 is one of the finest moments in our Nation's history. While credit rightly goes to 'The Few', victory could never have happened without the inspirational command and leadership of New Zealander Keith Park. He and Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding ensured that Fighter Command was prepared for the Nazi onslaught. Promoted to Air Vice Marshal, Park took over No 11 Group, responsible for the defence of London and South East England in April 1940. A shrewd tactician and hands-on commander, Park husbanded his limited resources and famously wore down Goering's Luftwaffe, thus forcing Hitler to abandon his invasion plans. This balanced and well overdue account hopefully ensures that Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park receives the credit for victory that he so richly deserves.

Media class: Hardback
Publisher: Air World
Resource type: Physical
Note: Adolph Gysbert Malan was born in Wellington, South Africa. A natural leader and driven individual with a totally positive outlook, aged 14 Malan became an officer cadet in the South African Merchant Navy, before being commissioned into the Royal Navy Reserve. In March 1941, Malan was promoted and became the first Wing Commander (Flying) at Biggin Hill. He went on to command a succession of fighter training units, passing on his tactical genius and experience, and producing his famous 'Ten Rules of Air Fighting' which are still cited today. By the war's end, Group Captain Malan was the RAF's tenth top-scoring fighter pilot. Leaving the RAF in 1945 and returning to South Africa, he was disgusted by Apartheid and founded the 'Torch Commando'. Tragically, in 1963, he died, prematurely, aged just 53, of Parkinson's. This biography is written with the support of the Malan family.
